I’m thrilled to share with you my most recent completed quilt top, Gypsy Wife (pattern by Jen Kingwell). Wow! What an experience it has been to tackle such a complex arrangement of different blocks in a continuous flow of rainbow color- definitely not my typical project, but so rewarding! When completed, this labor of love will be part of SWAN’s spring soiree art auction in May to benefit children of incarcerated parents. SWAN’s mission compelled me to move out of my comfort zone and create something captivating that is inspired by the music the children will perform that evening. Jen Kingwell’s pattern fit the bill perfectly when used as the foundation for a night sky exploding with the brightest colors for “A Million Dreams.”
I am indebted to hydeeann of splish splash stash for her blocks and strips spreadsheets in the construction of this quilt. I’m not sure what I would have done without them! This quilt ranks at the very top of the list for generating THE MOST MESS EVER in my sewing room (don’t let this picture fool you). SO many fabrics pulled, SO many choices, and too many blocks remade to get the color flow just right…. but so worth it! I even rearranged my whole sewing room mid project to accommodate the growing number of blocks that I couldn’t pack away that were taking over all my floor space. So thankful to now have a proper design wall. With this project, it’s a must!
Now I’m making plans for the choice of backing, how to best quilt it and what to bind it with. Stay tuned!
Come if you can on May 21st to support this amazing cause, see and bid on beautiful art and be blessed by the children’s performances. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
